Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

All Saints first Mass includes celebration of Mary's birth

The first Mass of the school year was a special one. It was held September 8th, the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the day the Catholic Church celebrates the birth of Blessed Mary. Mass included a blessing of the Virgin Mary statue in the school courtyard and, later on, birthday cake! Photos HERE.

All Saints Day, All Souls Day & Dia de los Muertos

Celebrating Catholic Holy Days and Traditions

To honor All Saints Day older students shared the stories of Saints with their younger Mass Buddies. The older students researched different Saints and prepared Saints Kits to share with their Buddies. On November 1st, older Buddies presented themselves as their chosen Saint to the younger Buddies, sharing what they researched. They then presented their Saint Kits. These included a coloring sheet, which Buddies worked on together, and a Saint card with a personal message from the older Buddy. Photos HERE.

A Mass was held for All Souls Day to honor the dead. After which a presentation was made by the 8th Graders, led by Senora Leon, about the Day of the Dead or Dia de los Muertos. The presentation included an altar of mementos of the dearly departed and traditional dancing. Parents and students painted their faces with a skull; a half-skull represents the brief transition between life and death. Students then sampled Day of the Dead sweetbread and hot cocoa prepared by the Segura parents. Photos HERE.
