Beneficial Brain Breaks

ASCS teachers learned about brain breaks in a workshop provided by Fit4Kids.  Second grade teacher, Lauren Porter, has begun a Master’s program at Liberty University and she is also learning about the benefits of brain breaks in her courses.  She learned that education researcher, Andrew Kim, contends that one of the big concerns in education today “is that traditional learning experiences are not aligned with how the brain works, particularly as it relates to attention.”  Physical movement enhances alertness and gets oxygen to the brain. This allows students to think more clearly.  With this in mind, All Saints’ teachers are giving students an opportunity to move several times a day.  These short 5 minute breaks to dance/exercise/move are boosting our children’s brain power!
